MY CREATION PROCESS

“Creation” is the concept that all designers have to had, however, creating something new and impressive is not an easy work. Depending on different people, they have different ways to create new ideas such as going somewhere, drinking coffee or wine, catching from life casually, combining different elements etc. there are some effective ways, there are some bad as well. I also have my own creation process.

1-Firstly, I think about many possible products that I can created in my mind. These brainstorm products depending on many elements such as : necessary information, products that I have seen in my life, my own news ways( including creating something news and sometimes applied my favorite design types such as maximalism, minimalism.). However, just only one or 2 ideas were chosen because facets such as my ability, not accepted by many people, can not carry out as I thought.

2-Secondly, after having possible ideas in my mind, I begin my work. In this steps, I also have many problems, however, different from problems in the brainstorm steps, problems in 2nd steps can be fixed. I have many ways to fix problems that I encounter in the process. Sometime, I still keep the idea which have problem, but I represent it in other ways which are related to old ways or replacing new elements. Try to change or arrange my own elements in different ways in order to comment and choose the best one. In this step, I often choose time when I feel most relaxed and I often drink coffee or something when working.

3-Catching ideas from life, these ideas come to me casually in an uncertain time, the ideas maybe come from what I see in life, my speaking statements from other people or even from mistakes.

In conclusion, It s difficult to say exactly how can I create something, For me, It s a difficult and long way that have many obstacles.

MAXIMALISM – MINIMALISM DESIGN

Maximalism and Minimalism are both design types but they are opposite. Each of these types has many interesting points and disadvantages as well.

Maximalism : related to the concept “Max”, we can image another concepts such as complication, specific, colorful. More specific, Maximalism is the way of using literature, art, graphic design, music to apply to post-minimalist movement or works. This type has become more popular since the year 2004. This design type is applied widely in decoration for magazine, TV show( especially shows are related to hip-hop culture), posters and other. multimedia systems. Maximalism is a kind of plastic art which forcus on or emphasizes work-intensive practice. Works from this art is often bright, sensual and visual rich. People who works with Maximalism often come from Asian countries such as China. In my opinion, There are also good things and bad things of Maximalism. The good thing is that it s colorful and complicated. These features help Maximalism seem be very youthful and exciting. The idea seems to be explode for the viewers. On the other hands, there are also some restrictive points such as informal, complicated etc

In contrast, there is Minimalism. Similar to Maximalism, minimalism is also the way of visual art by using graphics, music, however, Minimalism just concentrate on basic and important characteristics of the topic and make them become impressive. There are not too much elements( colors, pictures etc) are show in minimalist products. Minimalist designs often have implicit ideas in order to make the viewers to think much. Minimalism refers to something that is spare, stripped to its essentials, or proving only the outlone of the structure, independent of the particular art movement. Good things about Minimalism is it looks modern, formal, and elegant ( contrast to Maximalism ). However, there are also some small disadvantages difficulties in understanding, boring etc.

These types of design not only used for art , they are also used for designing other things in our life such as house, furniture, devices .etc

DANCE COMPETITION FLYERS
These are flyers that I designed for RMIT dancing club for their dance competition in week 11. there are 2 flyers, one is portable flyer and another is table flyers. These competition is about America Latin dances such as samba, salsa, jive, cha cha. The main features of these styles are exciting, quite sexy and these features have to be represented on the flyers.
In the portable flyer. Because it is just printed as gray scale color so I don’t need to care much about colors. The main things I have to do is showing features of Latin dance, provide enough information especially the information” voting for your couples”.
The 2nd flyer( table flyer) is more important because I have to care much about color. Behind the picture of a dancing couple. I create burning fire image as background in order to emphasize 2 main characteristics of Latin dance: sexy and exciting. In addition, main colors of the flyers is mainly “hot” color such as red, yellow, orange.

MY BOOK COVER PAGE
This is my book cover page for the book “Design for the real world-human ecology and social change” of author Victor Papanek. In the book, the author examines the attempts by designers to struggle against the tawdry, frivolous, unsafe useless products and provide the blueprint for the responsible design for this world which is deficient in resource and energy. The main image of the book is the picture of the natural scene is covered by 2 page of money and these pages are opening by pulling down the zipper. It means that designers have to reflect the real life and using their creativity to make their design looks good, not create something which is fake, frivolous for money. This idea was from the title” design for the real world” The main type of this book cover is classical, the colors I used are just dark color, not high contrast colors such as browns, dark red, dark green and black. I did not used any decoration in my book cover page.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAPS

Map is the way people arrange their information from the real life efficiently. All information is represented in map with particular groups, relationships etc. The purpose of the maps is helping user have a logic and easy looking about information they need. During development period, many new kinds and forms of maps are created with additive new technology.

The earliest form of map is just pictures were carved or painted on the wall of caves. In this picture, human life were presented

Then, maps were drawn on wooden board or animal skins, however maps still looked like “big pictures”, there are many of drawing objects are drawn on map such as trees, jungle, mountain, river, stream etc. In this time, people didn’t have good and modern transportation, so maps could just represent for a particular size of a small areas, not huge.

In the period of the development of transportation, there are many modern transportation such as plane. Creating a map is easier. In addition, people use particular symbols with different colors to represents particular things on the map instead of using small images. The size of the map became smaller but more information are represents. More over, maps were not only used for orientation, also used for representing information in different fields of life such as history, economy, politic etc.

Finally, in the modern world with the fast development of communication and media systems such as internet, satellite. Modern Maps version is created. For instance, people in anywhere in the world, they can use Google Earth to find and view wherever in the world easily and quickly or in developed countries, people can use GPS( Global Positioning System) for navigation.

ORIGAMI-EXCELLENT PRESENTATIN OF THE REAL SUBJECTS

Origami is the famous Japanese art of paper folding. The subjects (usually animals) are created by using geometric forms and crease patterns. Although origami productions look very complicated, the complication is merely the combination of many basic different folds and crease patterns.

The reason that make origami becomes famous and interesting is that when looking to a animal created by origami ( It can be just created by very simple fold and crease patter) ,the viewers are able to know exactly what this animal is. Origami is a good example of excellent presentation because particular features of the subjects are chosen and represented. I will describe and analyze how Origami can represent subjects in the real world very well:

The first example, It s a animal and we can easy realize what it is. It s a rhino. We are able to know exactly it s a rhino because origami represented particular features of a rhino such as : horn on the nose(it s the most particular feature, big and fat legs)

The second example is a secret. The viewer can not say any things else except a butterfly. Although the origami butterfly is very simple but it represented ideally a butterfly. The viewer can not say it s another secret.

In conclusion, Origami is very good at representing objects in the real world by merely combination basic different folds and crease patters.

CONTEMPORARY ART

I am really interested in contemporary art because it is very creativity and unusual. In this blog, I will show some basic and interesting informations about this art type.

Contemporary art is the visual arts being practiced for the present day. The concept that is related closely to contemporary art is Postmodernism so contemporary art can be the same as postmodern art-the art that against to the theory of modern art. There are two basic theory : the first one is about art that is being created currently and the another one is about art produced since the end of modernism in the year of 1960.It includes many elements such as big changes in the art world, society, culture, aesthetic and theories about current events which we do not yet have the benefit of historical perspective for. There is the fact that contemporary art has a lot of different art movements and many different ideologies, as well, some of which are anti-academic and anti-theory. There are many contemporary elements added to the field of aesthetics. It is sometimes controversial, contentious and not consensus.

The Distance by Le Viet Trung
Contemporary art theory receives social, cultural and political theories such as feminism, gender studies, LGBT social movements, civil rights and anti-racism, anti-globalism, Anti-imperialism, Marxism and other political theories because of the growing speed of the transference of ideas, money, information and culture around the globe.

Rice by Nguyen Dang Luong

One of the main characteristics of contemporary art is that it often engages matters and issues that presently affect the world such as Cloning, politics, economics, issues of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, human rights, war.

World of "output" by Nguyen Duc Thinh

Contemporary art is often sponsored by non-profit groups such as the DIA Foundation etc However, in contrast,it is usually sold and displayed in commercial contemporary art galleries which tend to cluster together in specific locations such as the 798 district in Beijing or the Chelsea neighborhood in New York, which is often referred to as the capital of the contemporary art world.

I am on running by Nguyen Hoa
Although contemporary art seems to be unusual, It creates life’s facets in a extremely special ways.

BOOK COVER PAGES

1-OB(Organizational Behavior)

This is the book whose cover page I love the best. It is really impressive to me. OB is the subject that help the leaders or whoever to organize their project or working team effectively. This subject also related a little bit to psychology. The main picture of the cover page is a herd of fish, there are a lot of fish that seem to swim messily and rebellious. However, when looking the picture carefully, we will se all the fish are swimming in a serious organization. All of the fish ‘s eyes are looking at only one way. The content of the picture related closely to the content of the subject. It s impressive

2-Fiction : Tomorrow is too late by Joseph Hayes

This is a famous fiction of writer Joseph Hayes. The first interesting and noticeable feature of this cover page is the size of the author name is the same as the title of the book. It represent that this writer is very famous. Secondly, the title “tomorrow is to late” is arranged in 2 lines “tomorrow” and “is too late”. It creates a heavy rhythm of the title and this rhythm represents the risky and confuse emotion of the book. Finally, the contrast in size of 2 subjects : the closed(big) shot gun and the small tent at night. It indicated the content that the dander is really huge and closed.

3-Streamline 1 English book

Streamline one English book is very familiar with many people. It seems to be ordinary, but I realized that there are an implicit feature in the cover page. Being different from other book when the picture related closely to the content of the book, the picture in the cover page of Streamline English book 1 is just a train with some people, it not related to the concept” studying English”. However, the train has indirect relation with the concept “studying English”. The train represents for the busy and hurry life of the people in the modern life. It emphasizes indirectly the important role of the English in the modern life through the picture of highway train.

SAIGON OPEN CITY

On the last Monday, 27th November. All students in my DIM2 class visited Art place : Saigon open city.

When I received the email of invitation about this place, I thought that this place must be a big exhibition which is very modern, beautiful with many infrastructures. However, the fact is in contrast, when I put the first step in this place, I thought that I had come to the wrong place. It is just an old house with some simple and careless decoration. Going around, I took a look to some pictures, movie clips. However, although pictures are very interesting ,creative and strange to me, they seemed to be old, not good protection.

After that, we came to a dark room with a movie clip about the project. Honestly, in that time, I couldn’t understand obviously and exactly what is it about. I just knew that it was an art project which had been being carried out couple years before by some famous Vietnamese and foreign artists. Then, there was a discussion between the artists who carried out the project and visitor begin. At this time, I wonder : why there were some foreigners, journalists in this such bad and old place, it must have something which are strong attraction. And after that, there were some interesting questions in my mind and I became really interested in this place.

The discussion begin, the first thing made me feel surprising is that, these Vietnamese artists can speak English very well, it completely changed my thinking about artists. Before that, I thought artists are just poor people and can just drawing or doing something unusual. During the discussion time, there were many mistakes and complaints such as : not be noticed by many people, old products, late license and something else. Although there are many mistake, I had a sympathy for the organization because these problem also usually happen to other organization, for example, it usually takes a long time to get the licenses to do anything in Vietnam generally.

Art and galleries exhibition are still not noticed in the busy city such as HoChiMinh city where people are very busy with their job, just artists and people who have quite much free time love coming and concerning about them.

MISPRINTED TYPES-DIRTY,MESSY but IMPLICITLY BEAUTIFUL

Misprinted type includes misprinted font, misprinted portfolio, misprinted photo, misprinted drawing etc. Misprinted Type is the portfolio and work of Eduardo Recife (Brazilian). The concept “misprinted” means having no certain ways of arrangements or criteria. It seems to be uncompleted with many defaults and messy. The designs are all very life like, it is a mixed media feel with brilliant textures Depending on each kinds of Misprinted types, there are particular interesting features

1-Misprinted drawing: pictures are drawn by simple and not colorful lines. The pictures of people and any thing else such as flowers, wave, are very simple and look like being drawn by children. The people are drawn as big heads with gray faces, simple arms and legs.

2-Misprinted photos: the subjects in photos are dirty, messy, old and broken. In addition, subjects are taken in different and not good composition such as : the mixture between dark and light, subjects are represented messily and carelessly.

3-Misprinted portfolio: the combination between misprinted drawing and misprinted photo. The real pictures in the photos are added some messy drawing elements such as tears, blood, and especially scratches that cover people eyes.

4-Misprinted fonts : In my opinion ,misprinted fonts in the most interesting one in Misprinted types. The font type basically have similar shape to other common font however there are some differences and unique features. The letters in font have some empty holes and scratches look like they are printed by a bad printer with the lack of ink.

Especially there is one font type that each letters in the font have different type and shapes. It’s really creative and unique.
